Presentation to Horizons Youth Club
When Kingsbridge Twinning Association recently wound down its operations it wished to donate the remaining funds in its bank account at £780.00 to a local cause which benefitted young people. A few conversations later and up stepped the Family Advice Support Team’s (FAST) Youth Club which Councillor Julia Wingate has chosen for her Town Mayor’s Charity.
On Friday 25th April, members of the Twinning Association and Julia were invited to the Youth Club, based at Horizons, 110 Fore Street, to check out first hand the facilities and what goes on. They were very impressed!
Indeed, there is more good news because funds collected from the World’s Smallest Nightclub (aka the red telephone box outside the Police Station) has pushed the Mayor’s Charity balance to just over £1,000 which will be major boost for the Youth Club.
Kingsbridge has been twinned with Isigny-sur-Mer in France and Weilerbach in Germany since 1990 and many visits have been organised over the years. Visits to Isigny stopped in 2016 and the Weilerbach liaison has recently ended however, the formal twining agreements remain in place. Many personal friendships have been made over the years and future visits are likely to take place on a personal basis.
FAST is a not-for-profit organisation (Community Interest Company/CIC) that delivers contracted enabling and support for children, young people and families. All profits are used for a community purpose which are running Horizons as a community hub and delivering 7 hours of youth work every week during term time. The Youth Club objectives are to provide a safe, welcoming and enriching space for all young people of secondary school age with opportunities to get support, learning and development. FAST’s aim is to be inclusive and to ensure that all young people feel that they are included and matter. The greatly appreciated donation from the Kingsbridge Twinning Association will be specifically used to fund this summer’s holiday youth club sessions during August. 2:00 to 3:00pm Entertainment by KATS to include a radio broadcast on events during and after the war.
Cream teas will be served.
3:30 to 5.30pm The Polka Dot Peaches performance.

Kingsbridge Town Council awards small cash grants to local clubs, groups and organisations which are actively involved in recreational, social or cultural pursuits within the community.
Bids are now invited for the awards in financial year 2025-26. Application forms, alongside the necessary conditions for an award, can be obtained from the Council Offices at Quay House, by downloading from www.kingsbridge.gov.uk or by phoning 01548.853296.
Please be aware that there is only one round of awards each financial year and so it is essential to get the completed forms, with supporting documents, into the Council Offices by 12 noon on Friday 11th April 2025. Successful grants will be distributed mid-May 2025.

It is a mandatory requirement for town and parish councils to hold an annual meeting for their residents between March and June. The purpose of the meeting is to provide the opportunity for local electors to receive reports on their council’s business and to discuss community matters.
The Annual Town Meeting 2025 for Kingsbridge residents, similar to previous years, will be held as a drop-in session (rather than a formal meeting in the Council Offices) between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. on Saturday 1st March in the Market Hall, Fore Street.
This is a great opportunity to meet your Town Councillors face-to-face to discuss matters which are important to you, to provide your own ideas, come up to speed with the latest news and get that niggling issue ‘off your chest’. Chiefly, how will the Town Council spend its portion of your council tax next financial year 2025/26 from 1st April (which will be £113.61 from your total council tax bill for a Band D household).
If you have planning, flooding, recreation etc. matters which you wished to bring up then we will have our adopted Neighbourhood Plan (alongside Churchstow and West Alvington), Community Emergency Plan and Open Space, Sports & Recreation Plan all available.
It will also be an opportunity to pick up an application form to nominate your Kingsbridge Community Champions for 2025.
We will also have the Skatepark Committee alongside us because at the same time we are hosting a consultation event for a new pump track (purpose-built track for cycling) in town with the pivotal issue being “Where should it go”?
Kingsbridge Town Council is the local authority closest to Kingsbridge residents. It is consulted on almost everything that happens in the Kingsbridge community and is responsible for a wide range of public realm business in the town.

Kingsbridge Town Council is once again on the lookout for Community Champions! Do you know someone who has gone above and beyond doing wonderful things for the Kingsbridge community and deserves to be recognised?
Those people who give their time freely and whose energy, enthusiasm, and efforts make our town a better place to live. You are invited to nominate an individual and/or community group that you feel should be celebrated. This can be any activity, big or small, from all kinds of people: a friend, work colleague, neighbour, or volunteer.
The Kingsbridge community is encouraged to elect their own Champions with as few rules and conditions involved as possible. All you need to do is to complete a nomination form which can be downloaded below, pick one up from the Council Offices at Quay House, call 01548.853296, or email reception@kingsbridge.gov.uk. Nomination forms will also be available from the Library, Kingsbridge Information Centre, and a few shops in Fore Street.
It will only take you a few minutes nominate someone. It’s easy, so let’s give local people the credit they deserve!
