Residents and visitors alike are invited to celebrate Kingsbridge Fair Week’s traditional glove hanging ceremony which will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday 22nd July by the Town Hall in Fore Street, now Kingsbridge Cinema.
True to tradition, the glove will be affixed to its rightful place on the Shambles and Julia Wingate, Mayor of Kingsbridge, will read the ancient charter, officially opening Kingsbridge Fair Week.
Afterwards, there will be a Floral Dance down Fore Street onto the Town Square led by the Silver Band. Everyone is most welcome to take part!
Please note, those wishing to join in with dancing please assemble BEHIND the Silver Band, the Fair Queen and Princesses, the Mayor & Town Councillors, and dance troupe.
This year, the procession will turn right into Mill Street at the bottom of Fore Street and then proceed via Prince of Wales Road and Ilbert Road to the roundabout, onto the Town Square.
Judging will be held on the Town Square by the bandstand immediately after the Floral Dance once all the dancers have arrived.
Prizes will be awarded for:
BEST DECORATED HOOPS
Either a matching pair of hoops or two individual hoops
2 prices in each age group: up to 6 years / 7 years and over
BEST DRESSED COUPLE
1 price of 2 Vouchers for each age group: up to 6 years / 7 years and over
Two prices to be decided by our secret judges, who will be among the onlookers, watching for those children that in their view danced exceptionally well down Fore Street.
Please stay around with your children, family and friends and join in Ceilidh on the Town Square from 8-9 p.m. The band has a caller to take everyone through the steps – no experience needed!
