Annual Town Meeting & Flooding Awareness Event

10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. on Saturday 6 April in the Market Hall, Fore Street

It is a mandatory requirement for town and parish councils to hold an Annual Town Meeting for their local residents between March and June.  The purpose of the meeting is to provide the opportunity for electors to receive reports on local council business and to discuss community matters.

The Annual Town Meeting 2024 for Kingsbridge residents, similar to previous years, is being held as a drop-in session (rather than a formal meeting in the Council Offices) between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. on Saturday 6th April however, it has been re-located to the Market Hall in Fore Street.

This is a great opportunity to step away from your keyboards and meet your Town Councillors face-to-face, offer up your own ideas, come up to speed with the latest news and get that nagging issue ‘off your chest’.  Chiefly, how will the Town Council spend its portion of your council tax in the new financial year 2024/25 (which is £91.91 for a Band D property having been increased at 4.2% in line with inflation).

We are also shaking things up and holding, at the same time, a Flooding Awareness Event:

  • Asking residents and businesses to complete a questionnaire regarding flooding incidents
  • Encouraging you to sign up to flood warnings and to report all flooding incidents
  • Highlighting our new information leaflet “Flooding in Kingsbridge – What you need to know and do” which will be available to pick up
  • Identifying our Emergency Plan which is available on our website
  • Showcasing ‘Floodsax’ an alternative to traditional sandbags (flatpack, light weight and easy to store)
  • Earmarking the Smart Gullies project in Bridge Street and DRIP flood surface water flood forecasting project
  • Asking you to consider becoming a Flood Warden for your local neighbourhood
  • Discussing recent flood and sewage discharge incidents
  • Phew!

Kingsbridge Town Council is the local authority closest to Kingsbridge residents.  We are consulted on almost everything that happens in the Kingsbridge community and are responsible for a wide range of public realm business in the town.  We keep repeating it, but whether you are at work, rest or play the Town Council is probably involved in your lives somewhere to a greater or lesser degree.  Town Councillors will be available to talk to you about topical matters and take your questions.
