Kingsbridge Town Council asked local businesses whether they felt that Saturday road closures for Fore Street would be a good idea to aid their recovery from Covid-19 lockdown restrictions?
The deadline for responses was Friday 3rd July and a total of 32 businesses gave us their Yes or No feedback as follows:
Yes 12 38%
No 20 62%
Therefore, and as reported, the suggestion will go no further.
Of course, it means that some businesses will be content, and others will be disappointed by this outcome.
However, and alongside other towns in the South Hams, Kingsbridge has received £5,000 from the Re-opening High Streets Fund. To date, circa 50% of this has been committed on the following:
- Kingsbridge is Open banners in Fore Street
- Heart radio adverts to promote Kingsbridge
- Shop Local, Shop Safe, Shop Kingsbridge posters around town
- Professional photographer to take images of shops (to come)
- Advertisement in the Post (to come)
We still have £2,500 to spend but it is not burning a hole in our pocket and there is no deadline for expenditure; so the funding could be spent later this year on similar-but-different projects.
Therefore, if you have a cracking idea to raise the Kingsbridge shopping profile then you must let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org or 01548.853296 or speak to your local Councillors who run businesses in Fore Street: Chris at Mangetout and Julia at The Trading Post.
