Remembrance Sunday

Kingsbridge War Memorial

Parade and Service Cancelled

This press release is issued jointly by Kingsbridge Town Council and the Kingsbridge & District Branch of the Royal British Legion.

The traditional Remembrance Sunday parade and service at the Kingsbridge War Memorial has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Under current restrictions we all have to think differently about how we engage and interact with our friends and our wider community.  It is acknowledged that this decision will be a huge disappointment to residents and all the community groups which take part given the importance of this meaningful commemoration.  Cancellation of the event is in accordance with government Covid-19 guidance for large social gatherings as the safeguarding of local people is paramount.

Therefore, we appeal to you not to gather at the War Memorial, but to pay your respects at home and to observe your own 2 minutes silence on Sunday 8th November at 11.00 a.m. to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community and civilians from Britain and the Commonwealth.  Likewise, on Armistice Day itself on Wednesday 11th November at 11.00 a.m.  Thank you.

The Town Mayor and Chairman of the British Legion will however, lay a single large wreath on behalf of the whole Kingsbridge community on Remembrance Sunday but this will be performed with minimal accompaniment and no presence from other groups.
