On Saturday 7th May, Mayor Mike Jennings presented the awards for this year’s Kingsbridge Community Champions in front of fellow Councillors and other members of the public. This is a welcome return of the awards after a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19 and the aim is to recognise the fabulous contributions that local people make to ensure that Kingsbridge is a great place to work, rest and play.
The winners for 2022 are as follows (from left):
Martin Longley
In recognition for setting up and managing the weekly Parkrun on National Trust Property at Bolberry Down since 2020 and continuing to lead and inspire people to benefit from outdoor exercise.
Amirul and Mahi Islam on behalf of Maha-Bharat Indian Restaurant
A team reward in recognition for giving back to the community, which has supported their business for almost thirty years, by making food donations to local people in need during Covid-19.
Laura Winser
In recognition for running Kingsbridge Crafters, a not-for-profit social enterprise based at Cookworthy Museum, and tirelessly working to introduce people of all abilities to the joy and well-being of crafting.
Peter Ralph
For his selfless devotion, time, and energy to promote Kingsbridge and his ‘Walk All Over Cancer’ fund raising half-marathon walk along Kingsbridge Quay with fellow volunteer walkers in aid of Cancer Research.
