Kingsbridge North Ward of Kingsbridge Town Council

Notice under Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 is hereby given that a vacancy exists in the office of Town Councillor for the Kingsbridge North Ward of Kingsbridge Town Council.

For a by-election to be held to fill the vacancy, a request by TEN registered local government electors in Kingsbridge North Ward of Kingsbridge Town Council  must be made, on or before 8th June 2026 to:

The Proper Officer, Electoral Services,
South Hams District Council,
Follaton House,
Plymouth Road,
Totnes,
TQ9 5NE.

If an election is not requested, the Town Council will co-opt a person to fill the vacancy as soon as practicable.

]]> Grants for the Kingsbridge Community FY 2026/27 https://kingsbridge.gov.uk/grants-for-the-kingsbridge-community-fy-2026-27/ Thu, 05 Mar 2026 11:49:42 +0000 https://kingsbridge.gov.uk/?p=7632 Kingsbridge Town Council awards small cash grants to local clubs, groups and organisations which are actively involved in recreational, social, or cultural pursuits within the community.

Bids are now invited for the awards in Financial Year 2026-27.

Application forms, alongside the necessary conditions for an award, can be downloaded from below, or requested by emailing reception@kingsbridge.gov.uk, or by phoning 01548.853296. Printed forms can be obtained from the Council Offices at Quay House.

Please be aware that there is only one round of awards each Financial Year and so it is essential to get the completed forms, with supporting documents, into the Council Offices by 12 noon on Friday 17th April 2026.

Successful grants will be distributed mid-May.

A local hero, a diligent volunteer, or simply someone whose efforts and enthusiasm makes our town a better place to live.

Now’s your chance to celebrate them!

You are invited to nominate an individual and/or community group that you feel should be recognised.
This can be any activity, big or small, from all kinds of people: a friend, work colleague, neighbour, or volunteer.

All you need to do is to complete a nomination form which can be downloaded below.

If you prefer, you can pick a hard-copy form up from the Council Offices at Quay House,  the Library, or Kingsbridge Information Centre. An editable Microsoft Word nomination form can also be requested by telephoning reception: 01548.853296, or via email: reception@kingsbridge.gov.uk

Wales & West Utilities have confirmed that repair works in the area have now been completed. Residents are reminded that a qualified Gas Engineer MUST turn your gas supply back on – please DO NOT attempt to do this yourself. All engineers carry official ID badges, and you can verify their identity at any time by calling 0800 316 0478.
Reconnection will be prioritised for vulnerable residents, as well as care homes, hospitals, and schools. If engineers visit while you are away from home, they will leave a notice with details on how to arrange your reconnection. The same process will apply to commercial premises where no one is present.
The Kingsbridge Family Church is offering a warm space with hot drinks available until 2pm on Sunday. Additional warm spaces are open across the area; please check local social media channels for the latest information and updates.

Town Mayor Julia Wingate, Councillors present and past, staff, and locals gathered on Quay House Lawn to wish him all the best and thank him for his hard work and dedication over the last 21 years. Martin truly made Kingsbridge a better town to work and live in – he will be sadly missed!! He leaves the reins in the safe hands of new Town Clerk, Katharine Harrod.

The occasion was marked by Town Mayor Julia Wingate flying the flag at the park entrance, to coincide with the RHS Britain in Bloom National Judging Day. A BIG thank you to Kingsbridge in Bloom, the South Hams District Council’s and Town Council’s Grounds Maintenance Teams, Wild About Kingsbridge, and all those local residents that have been hard at work ensuring that Kingsbridge is kept in a beautiful condition!

The aim of the awards is to recognise the fabulous contributions that local people make to ensure that Kingsbridge is a wonderful place to work, rest and play.

In recognition for many years of tireless work and dedication to the Kingfishers Swimming Club at Quayside Leisure Centre where her coaching and enthusiasm has benefitted hundreds of young, local children.

A team reward in recognition for the excellent range of community services and activities the team continues to offer to the people of Kingsbridge.

Jonny Richmond
For his contribution to the Kingsbridge community over many years and his genuine efforts and passion reaching out to everyone through his work leading Youth for Christ and as Pastor in Training at the Family Church.

In recognition for his tireless work on behalf of South Hams Society, scrutinising planning applications to make sure planning regulations are met to keep Kingsbridge a lovely place to live.
